Bed and Breakfast Description

According to the house deeds, The White Rose was built in 1817 (during the reign of King George III) as a family home.

Now, nearly two hundred years later, the house has 5 well-equipped, very attractive en-suite bedrooms.

If you choose to stay at the White Rose - the delicious breakfasts, the comfortable bedrooms, the hospitality and, of course, the beautiful countryside should make your trip to the Lakes truly memorable!

At the White Rose, there are five very pretty en-suite bedrooms:

Bedroom 1, Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 5 are all en-suite double-bedded rooms.

Bedroom 3 is our newly refurbished superior double bedroom.

It is the largest double bedroom at the White Rose and as well as its en-suite facilities, the bedroom has a sofa, a widescreen TV and DVD player, a hairdryer, alarm clock radio and tea and coffee making facilities.

Bedroom 4 has a double bed and a single bed and can be used as a large double bedroom, a twin bedroom or as a family bedroom for three guests.

Bedroom 4 can be used with Bedroom 5 to form our family suite of bedrooms on the second floor of the house.

Together, the bedrooms will sleep a family group of four or five people.

All the bedrooms have good quality fitted bedroom furniture as well as a colour television, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, and an alarm clock radio.

Local Attractions

Spend a few days in the Lakes and discover some of the glorious places that have fascinated so many artists, poets and authors.

Visit 'Hilltop' - Beatrix Potter's home close to Near Sawrey where she wrote many of her famous stories.

Come and see the beauty of this glorious area that has enthralled people for hundreds of years.

Windermere is surrounded by the outstanding beauty of the lakes, mountains and fells of the English Lake District; and with our selection of tourist maps and guides - available for our guests to borrow whilst staying with us, it is really easy to plan some great driving, cycling and walking tours of the area.

We are only a few minutes' drive from Lake Windermere and just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Windermere village - where you will find a good selection of welcoming pubs, cosy cafes and top-class restaurants - serving excellent meals and some great real ales!

Horse riding:
There are a couple of local stables which offer treks along the pretty country lanes or riding lessons at the stables.

Swimming:
You can take the whole family to the lovely Troutbeck Bridge Swimming Pool, which is a 5 minute drive from the house. The pool has lovely views of the fells on the opposite side of the lake -so enjoy them whilst enjoying your swim.

Golf
Visitors to Windermere can play golf at Windermere golf club, or simply enjoy a game of pitch and putt on the Glebe (down by the Lake) at Bowness.

Tennis
Tennis courts are available in Windermere and Bowness.

Walking and Rambling
Why not join one of the many guided walks - these normally begin from the Tourist Information Centre in Bowness or Ambleside. The blue badge guides who lead the walks are very knowledgeable about the area. (Details of the walks available can be found at the house). Alternatively, feel free to borrow our maps, and explore at your leisure!

Fishing
Fishing permits are required for most waters of the Lake District.
