Bed and Breakfast Description

HOWBECK LODGE is a charming modern farmhouse on a family farm where you can see the goats, sheep, horses, cattle and chickens. It is situated midway between Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle, within easy reach of the Northern Lakes and with lots of local walks for both ramblers and more energetic hill climbers.

HOME COOKING
Guests will not be disappointed with the hearty breakfast, consisting of choices of cereal, grapefruit, fruit juices, full English breakfast cooked to perfection in our Aga, toast and home made jams and marmalade.

If you require an evening meal this must be booked in advance. We serve a selection of local produce wherever possible.

THE RESIDENTS' LOUNGE
The residents' lounge is a beautiful room with comfortable sofas, colour televison and a log burning stove, where you can unwind after a hard day on the fells, or a scenic car journey around the Lake District.

Wigton Attractions

Howbeck Lodge is ideally situated for touring the Lake District and the Scottish Borders, and offers an ideal base for fellwalkers. Less active visitors can relax and enjoy the unrivalled scenery or tour the many interesting fellside villages.

PLACES OF INTEREST
Busier Lakeland towns are also easily accessible and include: Keswick, Cockermouth (Wordsworth's birthplace), Penrith and Carlisle. Some other places of interest are Hadrian's Wall, Tullie House Museum, Carlise Castle, Hutton in the Forest and Lowther Park. Local agricultural shows may be visited throughout the summer.

HESKET NEWMARKET
Hesket Newmarket is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the village remains unspoilt with a traditional village green, duckpond, picturesque cottages and the original market cross. Sheep farming still dominates the landscape and the history of the village and neighbouring Caldbeck (John Peel's birthplace) are featured in the local mining museum.

B&B Location

Travelling north or south on the M6, leave the motorway at Junction 41 and follow the B5305 towards Wigton. Follow this road for about 9 miles, and after a dip in the road take the first sign to the left for Hesket Newmarket. Follow this road for about 3 miles, go straight through the hamlet called Millhouse and go one mile further - Howbeck Lodge is on the left.
