Bed and Breakfast Description
|
|
The Fairfield is one of Lakeland's original country houses built over 200 years ago and now provides both serviced and self-catering accommodation. Tony and Liz Blaney offer their guests a high standard of personal service with genuine hospitality in a homely atmosphere.
The half acre of secluded garden gives a perfect sense of peace and tranquillity and in the early summer boasts the beautiful scent and colour of camellia, azalea, Rhododendron, and a magnificent wisteria that is as old as the house itself.
The Fairfield has single, twin, double, four-poster, deluxe, and family rooms, having views of the garden and surrounding hills. Well behaved children are most welcome and we encourage them to bring their parents!
Our breakfasts have an enviable reputation - a real feast to start the day, and we are always happy to cater for vegetarian and special diets.
Guests are invited to relax in the comfortable surroundings of the residents lounge and licensed bar. The lounge boasts a unique fireplace in which there is usually a roaring log fire to keep you warm on those long chilly winter evenings. There is central heating throughout, and all of the bedrooms have en-suite or private bath/shower rooms. In addition to a colour television, all bedrooms have tea & coffee making facilities, assorted toiletries, hairdryer, and radio alarm.
The top floor of The Fairfield has been converted to make a charming low beamed self-catering flat, that has modest views of the surrounding hills and Lake Windermere. The flat, called Claife Heights, has one en-suite bedroom and a lounge that incorporates a compact kitchenette.
The Fairfield is also delighted to be able to offer its guests free internet access via a public terminal; or, if you have a Wifi-enabled laptop with you, you can access the net from within the hotel via our free-access Wifi hot-spot hub. Essential for staying in touch while you are away from home. |

Local Attractions
|
Situated just above Bowness village and Lake Windermere, The Fairfield is set in peaceful secluded surroundings that make it an ideal base from which to explore one of the loveliest areas in Britain - the English Lake District.
We are just a short walk to the restaurants, pubs, and shops of Bowness village, as well as the waterfront of Lake Windermere, and nearby footpaths give access to the open countryside and the fine local viewpoint at the top of Brantfell. The Fairfield is also ideally located for Dalesway walkers.
The area offers unrivalled opportunities for outdoor activities - sailing, swimming, windsurfing, fishing, to name but a few. Additionally, within easy reach there is pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting and golf.
The main attractions however, are the lakes and the mountains. England's highest mountain and largest lake in an area of no more than 40 miles square! You don't have to be a climber or a mountaineer to enjoy the hills - long or short walking tours can be arranged either on your own or with one of the many experienced guides. An alternative is to join a mini bus tour that meanders along some of the narrowest country lanes that you will ever see and provides a more relaxed way to view the beautiful scenery.
Within easy reach are Hadrian's Wall, the border city of Carlisle, or Kendal - the gateway to the Lakes. There are many stately homes, gardens, and museums. On a literary note, the area is of course well known for it's association with William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Their houses and farms are now part of the National Trust and are open to the public at various times during the year. |

B&B Location
|

Bowness is a bustling village with an abundance of shops and restaurants just a short walk from the hotel. It is an ideal touring centre, easy to reach from the M6 motorway (junction 36 if travelling north, and junction 40 if travelling south). There is an InterCity rail service to Oxenholme with a local connection to Windermere, and a coach service from all parts of the country.
