Description

This large Victorian house is set in it's own grounds with a large garden.
Built in 1882 by a local merchant as a private house, it still has almost all its original features. There are no ensuite rooms as we feel feel this would spoil the character of the house. It is set in the elegant Georgian town of Whitehaven, with links from the past to Rum, Sugar and the slave trade.

Whitehaven is also the start of the coast to coast cycle run. You are very welcome to stay here before the famous cycle challange so you will be refreshed and ready for the journey ahead. It is also a great base for people wishing to explore the quieter Western Lakes, ideal for cycling and walking and discovering the natural beauty of the surrounding areas.

Glenard guest house offers relaxing and cosy bed and breakfast accommodation in Whitehaven. Enjoy a restful nights sleep in any of our comfortable, tastefully decorated bedrooms before enjoying a hearty home cooked traditional or vegatarian breakfast.

All our bedrooms benefit from full central heating. Each room has been individually decorated to the highest standard and incorporates a blend of quality beds and tastefully coordinated soft furnishings. To make your stay more enjoyable, each room is equipped with colour T.V, tea and coffee facilities and alarm clock.

Our private car park has the space for vehicles and there is also parking on the road available. We can also provide secure overnight storage for bikes.

For those who would prefer, we can offer packed lunches and flask filling ready for the following day.

Nearby you will find many restuarants and places of interest to visit and you can count on having a comfortable stay at Glenard.

Local Attractions

Keswick, Bassenthwaite Lake, Buttermere and Derwent Water lie a short drive to the south through the northern fells and the coast of the Solway Firth just to the north.

There are many activities straight from the front door - a 5 minute stroll down the road takes you right into the heart of Whitehaven with a good variety of local pubs, restaurants and shops catering for all your outdoor needs.

For those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of town, a wide selection of enjoyable walks are easily accessible. No matter what the weather is doing, there is a host of activities to make your Lakeland stay a rewarding and enjoyable time.

For anyone interested in photography there are lots of interesting historical places to visit or, why not try something different, the ‘coast to coast’ cycle run starts right here and will take you across the country.

If you are looking for a more relaxed and easy going pace, then why not enjoy a scenic tour around the lakes and hills.
