Bed and Breakfast Description

Get the most out of your visit to Oxford by staying at the Old Black Horse.

The Old Black Horse is a 17th Century Coaching Inn located five minutes from the centre of Oxford at the end of the High Street. The historic buildings of the city and university are nearby and Magdalen College with its beautiful deer park is just across the river.

We offer superior bed and breakfast accomodation with a range of single, twin, double and family rooms. All our bedrooms are en-suite and are equipped with Internet access points (both wired and wireless), remote control television, direct dial telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.

If you are contemplating a longer stay we recommend staying in one of our Home-from-home Suites that provide all the facilities of home while you’re away from home.

The Old Black Horse is centrally located, easy to find and easy to reach by public or private transport. London and Airport Coaches stop outside and we have a large secure car park.

The Old Black Horse has a range of single, twin, double and family rooms.

All the rooms have their own individual character but keep with the general theme of the hotel, leading to the rooms are winding staircases, split level floors and various heights to the ceilings, all in all adding to the 'old-world' features of this unique building.

Major renovation work has been undertaken throughout the Inn and all our bedrooms are now en-suite, with secure wireless Internet access, remote control colour television and direct dial telephone as well as tea and coffee making facilities.

A Full English Breakfast is served in our dining room between 7.30am and 8.45am on weekdays and 8am to 9.15am on Weekends and Bank Holidays. Special dietary requirements can be catered for if requested in advance.

St. Clements Attractions

Oxford is located in the South East of England, in the county of Oxfordshire. It was once described by a victorian poet, Matthew Arnold as that "sweet city with her dreaming spires", and has become affectionately know as "The City of Dreaming Spires". It is approximately 60 miles west of London and has excellent coach and rail links with the capital. Oxford's bus and train stations are conveniently located in the centre of the city, the landmark commonly recognised as the centre of Oxford is the Carfax tower(show me on a map). There is not a great deal of parking in the city centre so if you are driving to Oxford it is easiest to use one of the five Park and Ride facilities that are located on the major routes into Oxford.

The river Thames runs through Oxford and the 10 mile stretch is known as the Isis. There are two main activities that take place on the river, rowing (you must of heard of the University Boat Race Oxford versus Cambridge?) and punting. There is nothing more enjoyable than hiring a punt and going for a picnic on a hot summers day. Be careful though, punting is not as easy as it looks.

B&B Location

The Black Horse Inn is located close to the heart of historic Oxford. We are easy to reach whether you are travelling by car or using public transport.

Oxford is on the mainline from London with connecting services to the West and North.

The walk from the railway station to the Inn (approximately 2 miles) takes you through the heart of historic Oxford. Alternatively, it is a pleasant taxi ride. There is a licensed taxi rank immediately outside the station.

From the South East (London & M40)
Leave the M40 at junction 8, signed Oxford, and follow the A40 to the Headington roundabout.
At the roundabout, take the second exit; signed for Headington and the city (A420 - London Road). This road will become Headington Road and finally St. Clements Street.
The hotel is situated on the corner of St. Clement’s Street and Dawson Street. The entrance to the car park is in Dawson Street.

If you miss the hotel, use the roundabout at the end of St. Clement’s Street to double-back.
