Bed and Breakfast Description

Howard House is an historic 17th century Cumbrian farmhouse of traditional construction offering bed & breakfast accommodation refurbished to 4-star standard* for up to four family members or friends in a peaceful, 'unspoilt', yet very easy to reach part of North East Cumbria. It is close to Hadrian's Wall, directly on the route of the Reivers Cycle Trail and within easy driving distance of the historic city of Carlisle and The Lake District.

The Hayloft Suite is accessed from the farmyard by a private entrance that opens into a convenient area for outdoor coats and footwear and the ground floor twin bedroom with spacious wardrobe. Open stairs lead to the private first floor lounge with fabulous views across Cumbria and Dumfries & Galloway to the Solway Firth.

The private first floor lounge has a relaxing, light and airy ambience and is equipped with a small 'breakfast bar' area with tea and coffee making facilities, colour TV and access to the private shower room.

The good quality sofa bed converts quickly and easily into a comfortable double bed, making The Hayloft Suite ideal for families or groups of friends.

Double glazed and centrally heated, The Hayloft Suite has a traditional rural ambience.

The shower room has a heated towel rail and is conveniently equipped for guest comfort.

Visiting dogs must be well-behaved and will be bedded in the stables. We do not accept dogs in The Hayloft Suite.

Completely 'no smoking' at all times.
Refurbished to 4-star standard and awaiting grading inspection.

Local Attractions

As we're close to the market towns of Longtown and Brampton, there's quite a wide choice of restaurants, pubs and hotels for lunches, evening meals, great pub grub and/or a quiet drink. Visit Longtown and Brampton Online for more information. There's also a number of rural pubs in the area, more than one with a great reputation for good food! Local 'Pub runs' can usually be arranged with prior notice.

For shopping-holics, Carlisle has a lot to offer, with the award-winning The Lanes Shopping Centre just a 20 drive. Whilst in Carlisle, 'The Great Border City' , there's plenty to see and you can easily spend a day enjoying the history as well at the shops. Visit Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery for an insight into local history and take the opportunity to visit Carlisle Castle - there's a Live Webcam showing the view from the BBC studios and offices, together with up-to-date information about the weather in the area. Concerts take place regularly at The Sands Centre and you can book tickets online in advance of your visit.

B&B Location

Travelling by road to Cumbrian Hoofbeats is an easy journey for visitors bringing horses with them for a riding holiday.

We are located less than 30 minutes from the M6 motorway (Jcn 44 - north Carlisle) and less than 20 minutes from both the A69 trunk road at Brampton and the A7 trunk road at Longtown.

The entrance to Cumbrian Hoofbeats at Howard House has good visibility and we will always help if you are not very confident in an unfamiliar yard.
