1 double ensuite room with king-size bed.
1 twin room with private facilities across the landing.
These 2 rooms have a lockable door separating them from the rest of the house creating a family suite.
Detached ensuite family room sleeping up to 5 people in 1 double and 2 single beds and a comfortable folding bed.

GUEST LOUNGE/DINING ROOM
Should the weather be inclement there will be a roaring log fire to sit in front of and you can either chat with the other guests, watch TV,. read a book or play some of the board games which are available for your use.
In general we would like you to look on Strand Cottage as a home from home.

Local Attractions
EXPLORE HADRIAN'S WALL COUNTRY

Housesteads, thought by many to be the most spectacular Roman site on Hadrian's Wall (on Hadrian's Wall National Trail), is 3 miles and a pleasant walk from Strand Cottage, whilst Roman Vindolanda (2 miles) and its sister site, the Roman Army Museum, are also close by. Also, within 10 miles are the roman forts at Chesters and Corbridge. See Hadrian's Wall bus timetable.

Nearby is the market town of Hexham (10 miles), with its historic Hexham Abbey and 14th century Old Gaol, and Haltwhistle (4 miles), the geographical centre of Britain.

AROUND BARDON MILL VILLAGE

Errington Reay Pottery, established in 1878, is situated in the village of Bardon Mill and has a factory outlet. Also in Bardon mill is Unique In Glass, makers of hand crafted designs in mosaic and stained glass.

Horse riding is popular in the area and, because there are so many places to go, we have arranged with a local family, who have stables, to make these available for anyone who wishes to bring their horse away with them but not have to look after them full time.

ALSTON & ALLEN BANKS

Alston, the highest market town in England and where Oliver Twist was filmed, is 10 miles away and can be reached by an acclaimed scenic route, the A686, which runs from Alston to Penrith and was voted amongst the world's 10 best drives.

The South Tynedale Railway (steam) runs from Alston, and close by are the Nenthead Lead Mines, which are open to the public.

One mile from Strand cottage is the National Trust property of Allen Banks which has extensive walking tracks, several picnic areas and affords some of the most beautiful vistas in the Northumberland area.

We are in peaceful, unspoilt Northumberland - a county of spectacular castles and coastline, and ideal for walking. Place to visit include:

Newcastle
North Shields
Carlisle
 

Location
From Carlisle... Take the A69 past Haltwistle and continue for 3 miles. Drive past a BP garage and Little Chef. Strand Cottage is the next house on the left 1.25 miles further on.

From Newcastle... Take the A69 past Hexham and continue through Haydon Bridge. 4 miles further on watch for the 'Smoke' warning sign. Strand Cottage is on the right just past the trees

By Bus and Train... The train station is just ¼ of a mile away and if possible guests can be picked up. The bus stops right outside the cottage.
