Description

A stunning Georgian Mansion standing in four acres of fabulous wooded gardens. Hedgefield house dates back to 1804 with documented evidence that it was the first home in Britain to have a telephone installed. In 1877, the inventor of the telephone Alexander Graham Bell, made the first experimental phone call from the drawing room to the local coal mine.


Breakfast Hall
The breakfast hall is open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 8.30am and Saturday and Sunday 7.30am to 9.15am. We serve a lavish continental buffet breakfast with a variety of cereals, yogurts fresh fruits, toast and croissant.

Gardens
Hedgefield House is set in 4 acres or award winning gardens and is situated on the edge of the Northumbria countryside, yet only minutes from the bustling city.

Gym
Guests are welcome to use the gym between 10.00am and 8.00pm and is limited to over 18s.
It is kitted with free weights and aerobic equipment. Use is free of charge.

Sauna
Please ask a member of staff if you wish to use the private sauna. It is available from 10am and 8pm. There is a small charge for this service.

Massage
Massages can be arranged with a professional male masseur.
*Please give prior notice if required.

Parking
On site parking is available free of charge to all guests.

Disabled Access
Hedgefield House is a fully access approved bed and breakfast.

The house stands in four acres of parkland, which falls into four distinct parts:

The Walled Garden
The Woodland Area
Hedgefield Pond
Herbaceous Borders and Lawns

Local Attractions

Hedgefield House only a short distance from the River Tyne and the Hadrians Wall walk. Hedgefield House is the perfect stopover for walkers, ramblers and cyclists following the Hadrians Wall route.

Hedgefield House is situated on the edge of the Northumberland countryside, one and a half miles from the A1M, two miles from the Gateshead Metro Centre and four miles from Newcastle upon Tyne city centre with its beautiful architecture, groundbreaking theatre and musical entertain-ment.
 

Location

From the South (A1):

After the Washington Services, the road divides (A1 to the left, motorway to the right). Bear left on the A1 past the Angel of the North.

Shortly after the Metro Centre, take the exit signposted A695 Blaydon. Continue on this road, going straight on at the roundabouts and get into the the right hand lane on the approach to the Scotswood Bridge. When you reach a large roundabout next to McDonalds, take the third exit which is the B6317 to Ryton. Continue along Stella Road until you the sign for Hedgefield House on the left.

From the North (A1):

After passing Newcastle upon Tyne, take the exit signposted Blaydon. Take the second exit at the roundabout and turn right over the Scotswood Bridge, keeping in the right hand lane. Follow the long sweeping left hand curve back under the bridge. When you reach a large roundabout next to McDonalds, take the third exit which is the B6317 to Ryton. Continue along Stella Road until you the sign for Hedgefield House on the left.
