Bed and Breakfast Description

Duke's Place also has three well appointed guest bedrooms for bed & breakfast (B&B), each with its own individual character, and situated in the main house.

All three enjoy the tranquillity of the setting with not even a street lamp to be seen. Each guest bedroom has wonderful views over open fields and the rolling Nidderdale countryside.

All three also enjoy beautifully fitted shower/bathrooms.

Our bed & breakfast guests also have use of a beautiful lounge with huge windows overlooking our gardens - a perfect place to unwind after a long walk in Nidderdale.

There is also the splendid dining room, with similar views over the gardens and fields.

At Duke's Place it is our aim to source as many of our breakfast ingredients from local suppliers.
You might like to know that normally...

Our eggs come from our electrician who has a smallholding nearby. Our sausages are made at our village butchers or bought from Keeble's of Masham. A recent addition to the breakfast menu are venison sausages - bought direct from the local estate. They are lean meat and can be pork free, and are proving very popular.
Tomatoes in season are home grown wherever possible and mushrooms are also sourced locally or from the fields when in season. Our marmalade is produced locally in the village of Crayke. Smoked meat and smoked fish come from local smokehouses. Our range of speciality fishcakes are delivered fresh from Devon (they are the best we can find!) Our tea and coffee comes from Bettys of Harrogate... of course.

Harrogate Attractions

Duke's Place is situated in Nidderdale in North Yorkshire, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The interesting towns of Harrogate, Ripon and Knaresborough are only a few minutes drive away and we are also only a short drive from the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There are also a variety of local attractions to cater for every whim if walking is not your thing.

Below are some of our favourite local attractions, but these are just a flavour...

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden

A National Trust property which remains of a Cistercian Abbey and elegant ornamental lakes and gardens. Restaurant and Tea Rooms also available. A World Heritage Site.

Brimham Rocks

Curious rock formations at Brimham in Nidderdale are scattered over some 50 acres on Brimham Moor and provide a great variety of weird and wonderful shapes. This is a National Trust location - have your membership cards ready.

Theakston's Brewery Tours

Famous for its traditional quality real ales such as Old Peculier and XB. Located in Masham.

Harlow Carr Gardens

The superb Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Harlow Carr in Harrogate. Now with Bettys Tea Room.

Forbidden Corner

The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Tickets available from Middleham.

Lightwater Valley

One of the UK’s leading theme parks, packed with over 40 rides and attractions. With over 30,000 sq ft of factory shopping and the amazing Bird of Prey Centre, all set in 175 acres of stunning countryside, Lightwater Valley is the ultimate family day out.

B&B Location

Duke's Place is an ideal base for exploring the whole of Yorkshire, yet within close proximity to Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresborough and Pateley Bridge and only 22 miles from the historic city of York. We are located about half a mile north east of Bishop Thornton in the heart of Nidderdale.

The East Coast is within easy driving distance being only sixty miles away, but the area is also rich in heritage with ruined abbeys, cathedrals and many National Trust properties close by.

The A1(M) and A59/A61 provide excellent road access to Nidderdale and Duke's Place and there is a mainline railway station at Harrogate with trains from London and the South East available.
