Description

Claypath is one of the oldest and historic roads within the City of Durham. Since medieval times it was the main route for both pilgrims on their way to the cathedral and merchants selling their wares in the market place. The street was once very busy and lined with drinking houses, tradesmen and the workshops of artisans.

We are a short walk from the Gala Theatre, Durham's Market Place, Cathedral, Castle and riverside walks. Close by are some of Durham's best restaurants and pubs.

No. 66 Claypath is a Grade II listed Georgian town house. Whilst building an extension during the summer of 2000, evidence was discovered suggesting the origins of the house dates back to a much earlier period.

All rooms have colour TV, Radio, Alarm Clock, Hair Dryer & Tea and Coffee making facilities. Continental or full English breakfasts are included and we will be happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements.
We are able to provide secure under cover storage for bicycles and are part of the "Walkers Welcome" scheme.

Local Attractions

66 Claypath is only a short walk from the new Gala Theatre, Durham Market square, world famous Cathedral, Castle and riverside walks.

We believe 66 Claypath is ideally located for exploring not just the City of Durham but all the North East has to offer. Of particular note are Gateshead's Angel of the North, the Metro Shopping Centre, the award winning Millennium Bridge and the Baltic Mill Arts Centre. Close by is North Yorkshire with it's wonderful countryside and superb walks also Newcastle which is renowned for its lively night life and the newly developed quayside. Further a field is Northumberland with Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, the amazing & beautiful Cragside once home of Lord Armstrong, Alnwick Castle and it's newly created garden which will become one of Europe's premier attractions.
