Bed and Breakfast Description

Whether you are interested in visiting the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey - all only 20 minutes away by car - going walking in the Yorkshire Moors or Wolds or visiting the region's houses and gardens, you can be assured of a warm welcome at Manor Farmhouse. We are open all year round to allow you to enjoy the surrounding countryside in every season.

Dating back to the 1750s, the house retains many of its original features, with oak beams and window seats still in evidence. Renovated to a high standard in 2005, we have two double rooms each with its own private bathroom, and one twin room. Every room has full central heating, tea/coffee making facilities and a television.

We provide a wide menu choice for breakfast, with vegetarians catered for and home grown produce when in season.

We are a non-smoking establishment for the comfort and safety of our guests.

Accommodation for pets can be provided in the stable block by prior arrangement.

There is ample off road parking available.

Walkers, cyclists and bikers are welcome and provided for. Pick ups and drop offs for the Wolds Way and other walks are available on request. There is plenty of secure storage and drying facilities for all your equipment.

We have two double rooms and one twin room. All the rooms have been refurbished and decorated to a high standard late 2005/early 2006. Both double rooms have window seats with views over the garden. All the rooms have full central heating, tea/coffee making facilities and a television. The larger double (Whitby Room) has the luxury of a king size bed, as well as a chair bed which can be used to accommodate a child. The private bathrooms each have a bath and shower to cater for everyone's needs. All our rooms are located on the first floor, hence we are sorry to say that wheelchair access is not available.

Local Attractions

Foxholes is a quaint country village situated in a valley in the Northern Yorkshire Wolds, and is a mixture of houses, farms and farm buildings. The church of St Mary was erected in 1866 in Norman style and stands on the edge of the village on the road to Ganton.

There are no pubs in the village but the nearby villages of Ganton, Weaverthorpe, Kilham, Thwing and Flixton all have pubs that serve good food.

For local entertainment, there are cinemas in both Scarborough and Bridlington. There is also a small arts cinema in Scarborough which regularly shows films from around the world. The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough is the UK home of Alan Ayckbourn and other playwrights.

Top UK wildlife artist Robert E Fuller has his own gallery just outside the small village of Thixendale between Pocklington and Malton. The gallery is open to visitors Monday to Saturday 11am until 4.30pm. Log onto the following website to have a look at his paintings: www.RobertEFuller.com.

The Ryedale Festival, one of North Yorkshire's finest art festivals, takes place every July in venues throughout North Yorkshire such as Castle Howard, Sledmere House and the Memorial Hall in Pickering.

Further afield, but within an hour's drive of Manor Farmhouse, are the evening ghost walks around York or Whitby.

For all you keen golfers, the renowned Ganton Golf Club is only 4 miles away.

The Wolds landscape and surrounding villages owe much of their character to the landowners who made the grand and stately houses of Yorkshire their home. Click on the links below to view some of the houses and gardens open to visitors in North and East Yorkshire.

B&B Location

Manor Farmhouse is located on the main road between Driffield and Scarborough, the B1249. However the house is set well back from the road so as to be undisturbed by traffic noise.

From Leeds/York, proceed along the A64 until Ganton where you will see a signpost for Foxholes. Take this turning and follow the road into the centre of Foxholes. Turn left onto the B1249 and then immediately left again down the driveway of Manor Farmhouse.

From Scarborough take the A64 the short distance to Staxton. Turn left at the lights up Staxton hill and follow the road into Foxholes. Manor Farmhouse is on the right hand side just before the Ganton Road turning.
