Beautifully positioned in the little village of Piddletrenthide near Dorchester, The Poachers Inn has something for everyone. From the minute you walk through the door you can experience the traditional yet modern bar and restaurant which serves wonderful food, ales and wine. You can also stay the night in one of our 21 sumptuous rooms. In the summer, why not join us to enjoy our beautiful riverside garden and heated pool.
Situated in the heart of Dorset, The Poachers Inn is the perfect place to explore some of the local area. Close to the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic Coast, miles of unspolit beautiful countryside, lots of attractions and the towns of Dorchester, Weymouth, Salisbury and Poole are all an easy drive away.
Owners Nigel Tancock and Sarah Harris are hands-on in every way, sharing their passion and energy with the committed staff.

Separate from the main inn and restaurant and formed around a central courtyard, we have 21 sumptuous rooms. The bedrooms are individually and stylishly decorated to a very high standard with modern furnishings and the comfiest beds - our rooms are like no others.

Each bedroom has a colour television, alarm clock, direct-dial telephone, complimentary coffee and tea facilities, an en suite bathroom with bath or shower, hair dryer and all those little comforts which you would naturally expect.
Our executive rooms are spacious and highly appointed with bath and shower.
Our two suites have king size beds, Jacuzzi baths, walk in showers.and lounge seating areas overlooking the pool. Ideal for any special occasion. |

With Dorchester, Portland, Sherborne, Shaftesbury Weymouth, Salisbury and Poole all an easy drive away and we are close to many of Dorset's leading attractions including the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, The Cerne Abbas Giant, Sherborne Castle, Maiden Castle, Monkey World, Tutankhamen Exhibition, Tank Museum, Dinosaur World, The Lulworth Estate, Henley Hillbillies, Southern Counties Shooting and more....
The Poachers Inn is an ideal base for walkers with hundreds of walks literally leading from the front door. Other sports such as cycling, golf, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking can also be explored locally.
Piddletrenthide gets its extraordinary name from being on the River Piddle, and its assessment for thirty hides at Domesday. Piddletrenthide has one of the finest village churches in Dorset with a splendid 15th century tower and gruesome gargoyles under its battlements. The coloring of the church exterior is one of its charms. The grey, yellow and browns in the walls contrast with the distant green of the downs.
Dorset is a county of outstanding natural beauty, with rolling hills, craggy coastlines and soft sandy beaches. It is famous for its picturesque coastline, which stretches from Lyme Regis in the west to Christchurch in the east. Dorset's coastline was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO in 2001 for its unique geological history and landforms such as Lulworth Cove, the Isle of Portland and the shingle bank of Chesil Beach.
