Bed and Breakfast Description

County Clare is renowned for its hospitality, rugged beauty and traditional music, and CLAREVILLE HOUSE is situated on the road from Ennis into Scariff, only 40 minutes drive from Shannon Airport.

This spacious modern home has attractive and well equipped bedrooms, and Teresa is happy to help with local information, making this the ideal place to stay for visiting this wonderful corner of Ireland.

Boating and fishing are available on nearby Lough Derg. Golf and horse riding can be arranged locally. There is ample parking and storage facilities for fishing tackle.

Tuamgraney is one of the most notable, ecclesiastical and historical places in Ireland. It's pagan past is recorded in its townland names, in pillar stones and holy wells. It's monastic past is recoreded in the Annals and in the lives of the saints. Brian Boru worshipped here and repaired St. Cronan's church in 1012.

Tuamgraney is the birth place of the well know novelist Edna O'Brien, born 'a stone's throw' from Clareville House and also the home of the famous Historian, Dr. Edward McLysaght.

While in Tuamgraney look out for the following: O'Grady's 16th Century Castle, The oldest Oak tree in Ireland, The Garden of Remembrance, The Famine Memorial Park and walk through the same doorway as High King Brian Boru did a thousand years ago.

Visit the famous monastic site of Holy Island (Inis Cealtra) on Lough Derg. Avail of guided tour and see the many attractions including A well-preserved Round Tower, The ruins of 6 churches, A Holy Well, The Saints Graveyard and a lot more. Trips can be arranged for you just ask Teresa.

Fishing

Lough Derg is the largest lake on the River Shannon and is adjacent to Clareville House, Tuamgraney, Scariff. This lake offers superb angling, mainly for pike and coarse fish, but wild brown trout are fished during the Mayfly season. There is a lot of natural access along its shoreline and there is also access via several slipways and there are many sheltered harbours and marinas dotted around its shore. The lake is noted for record weight pike and the best time to fish for them is early Spring. Angling on the lake is mainly by boat and hire facilities are available.

Over 40 lakes and rivers are dotted throughout East Clare. This is an angling area which has been well developed over the years, situated in an upspoilt and peaceful countryside. The area is most popular for pike and coarse fishing with abundant stocks of pike, bream, tench rudd roach and perch in most waters. Most rivers and lakes are very accessible with car parking closeby and fishing stands have been erected on some lakes. Lough Bridget, Doon Lake and Kilgory lakes are all 10 minutes drive from Clareville House, and are all set in very peaceful, tranquil and picturesque countryside, where the day and sometimes the night will slip by without you noticing.
