Bed and Breakfast Description

Awarded with 4 Stars by the Scottish Tourist Board, this bed and breakfast has an elevated position, peacefully overlooking a sea loch and also affording superb views across the Minch towards the distant Western Isles.

The Isle of Skye scenery is magnificent and whilst on the island you are never more than 5 miles from the sea. The Cuillin Mountains are rugged and dramatically beautiful - climbers come from all over the world to meet their challenge.

There are walks and climbs to suit everyone in the locality and there are several excellent books and maps at Ashaig, which will help you plan your holiday.

This location has the added bonus of a seascape, which contributes to stunning sunsets and starlit nights.

Relaxation is a very high priority at this B&B - worried about Midge bites at sunset or overnight? Please read about - the new anti-insect measures - on the Frequently Asked Questions page.

The whole of Skye is easily accessible from Ashaig and the famous 'Northern Lights' are often seen from here in Spring and Autumn.

Portree Attractions

The Isle of Skye is larger than most people think - about 60 miles long and made up of several very different peninsulas. Incredibly, due to its 'winged' shape, it has a coastline of several hundred miles!

There is a comprehensive information folder available for guests to help make the most of a visit to the island. It includes extensive details about places of scenic and historical interest, recommended restaurants, and has suggested daily itineraries and driving directions.

After a day of exploring, guests can rest by the fire in Ashaig's sun lounge - a place in which to relax and enjoy the tranquillity, or browse through the collection of Skye history and guide books.

Skye is justly famous for its natural beauty and many items of cultural or historical interest - it is a photographer's and artist's paradise due to the stunning views and unique light effects.

Other attractions and places to visit on the island include the Sleat Peninsula - home of the Gaelic College, the Clan Donald Centre, Armadale Castle and Gardens, and the Museum of the Isles.

Guests at Ashaig Bed and Breakfast can enjoy a boat trip or a day's fishing using the owner's boat, 'Margeric'. If angling is of interest, there is sea, loch and river fishing close at hand.

Also in the locality or very nearby, there are regular Ceilidhs [traditional music and dancing], a swimming pool, golf courses, horse ridging trails at the Skye Riding Centre, many art galleries and craft outlets, a local whisky distillery, and the famous Dunvegan Castle.

At Portree, there are restaurants, a theatre and a cinema, plus the Skye Heritage Centre beside Loch Portree.

B&B Location

Ashaig Bed and Breakfast is situated on the Kildonan peninsula towards the north end of the island.

It is 44 miles from the Skye bridge and just off the A850 Portree to Dunvegan road.

The ferry terminal at Uig - which links the Isle of Skye to the Western Isles of Lewis, Harris, and the Uists -is 18 miles away.

Portree is 12 miles away and Dunvegan with its world famous castle and beautiful coral beach is only 10 miles away. The nearest village to Ashaig is Edinbane - 2 miles along the main road.

The main roads on the Isle of Skye are of a good standard, but some are single track - which may seem a novelty but require everyone to drive with courtesy and consideration!

There is ample off street parking for vehicles.

Directions By Road From Kyle Of Lochalsh

From the Skye bridge travel along the A87 heading for Portree. At the junction just before entering Portree take the left turn for Dunvegan and Uig on the A87 for approximately 5 Miles. At this point the road splits at Borve. Take the Dunvegan road on your left the A850.

Travel for 7 miles approximately. Watch out for the road sign for FANKS we are half a mile further on. Turn right at the Kildonan sign [the sign is on your left, pointing to your right]. The sign post for Ashaig is also on your left hand side, pointing to your right. Travel quarter of a mile down the hill to Ashaig, on your right, at the top of the next hill overlooking Loch Greshornish.
