Bed and Breakfast Description

Located in the very heart of the Peak District and less than one mile from the historic spa town of Buxton, Derbyshire, Barms Farm is an ideal base to explore the breathtaking Derbyshire Dales and for visiting the numerous local attractions in the Buxton area. Commanding an elevated position north of Buxton with open views all around, the large farmhouse offers superb bed and breakfast accommodation and facilities courtesy of the Naden family who have owned the property since the 1930's.
The original cottage part of the farmhouse dates back to the early 17th century and was originally known as The Barms Farm. The pedigree Spatown dairy herd was dispersed in 1998 and now a small flock of sheep and two horses graze the surrounding fields. Since the 1980's the house has been sympathetically extended and upgraded without detracting from the original character and charm of the property.Barms Farm is subject to an ongoing enhancement programme to maintain and improve the current high standards.
The property has ample, private, illuminated car parking and sits within its own landscaped grounds. Within the garden sits a large pond with adjacent pergola and seating area. The luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation gives freedom of access. A private guest entrance opens into the main hall from which the staircase leads to the guest wing of the house which can accommodate up to six adults within three pristine double en-suite rooms with king sized beds and all modern comforts for guest comfort. All rooms have 32" flatscreen digital tv/radio, hospitality tray, hairdryer, fans, alarm clock, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, towels & robe.Traditional features are complimented by modern conveniences and furnishings. All decor is to a high standard throughout. Quality, personal attention to detail and guest comfort at Barms Farm has been recognised by Visit Britain and rewarded with their 'Five Star Silver' award which assures guests of superior hospitality and a quality stay.

Buxton Attractions

From the breathtaking summit of a gritstone crag to a shady place among wild flowers at the river’s edge, the Peak District’s inspirational landscape provides a perfect playground for all kinds of outdoor activities.

Rainy Days

Go down under to explore the world of the vast Castleton Caverns and see the unique Blue John stone which is only found in the Peak District. The jewellery made from the stone can be found for sale in the shops at Castleton.

Historic Homes

Chatsworth House, Britain’s favourite stately home with its wealth of artistic treasure and perfect setting is the Palace of the Peak. The extensive parkland hosts many public events throughout the year from horse trials to country and game fairs. Haddon Hall and its romantic gardens, bordered by castellated walls is a wonderful historic gem. Unaltered since the 1500’s it is a truly authentic medieval manor house

Customs, Traditions & Festivals

The customs and traditions of the Peak District have survived and flourished for centuries. The most celebrated of all are the colourful well dressings from May to September. Up to two hundred wells are decorated with flower petals, grasses and many natural materials by local Derbyshire people.

Other traditions and customs include Shrovetide Football at Ashbourne (originated during the reign of Henry 1), Oak Apple Day which is always held on the 29th May at Castleton, World Championship Toe Wrestling, Hen Racing, Sheep Washing at Ashford-in-the-Water, Flower festivals, Agricultural shows, Sheepdog trials and Maypole dancing.
