Tantallon House bed and breakfast, in Gilsland Village on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland, overlooks the longest unbroken stretch of Hadrian's Wall. We offer a peaceful getaway spot and an ideal gateway to the many places of interest in this area, including Birdoswald Roman fort which is 5 minutes away.
Sustainable Tourism
As a family-run business in a rural community, we aim to run our bed and breakfast accommodation in an environmentally friendly way, thereby promoting sustainable tourism. We are currently working towards some of the initiatives promoted by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. This includes everyday energy reduction and the encouragement of local wildlife.
Local Produce
We purchase local produce, where possible, to support the region’s farmers, as this in turn maintains the agricultural character of the area and improves our environment. Local products generally include Cumberland sausages, bacon, free-range farm eggs, honey and fruit preserves.
Fair Trade
Fair Trade coffee, tea and other produce are provided if you’re feeling peckish or thirsty at any point in your stay. We have chosen to supply Fair Trade products because we support their efforts to guarantee a better deal for Third World producers.
Our 4 Star with Silver Accolade bed and breakfast accommodation includes two spacious twin guestrooms with glorious views of the Irthing Valley and Hadrian's Wall. Guests have private dining and lounge rooms to eat and relax in, often with a fire burning during the winter months.
