Description

Desmond and Melanie run an extremely private house with an air of friendly informality that is unique to Irish Country House Bed & Breakfasts. Certainly not considered a mere 'room for the night', there are no public signs to draw the attention of casual visitors and indeed guests have the run of the entire house as if they were staying with friends. There are family dogs in the background and animals play a large part of life at Glenlohane. Apart from farm animals, there are also ponies, horses, fantail pigeons and bantam hens.

As a member of Lodgings Ireland group of private country houses, Glenlohane is not a hotel or professional guest house. There is no reception desk or public bar. Rather, it is a very comfortable country home that takes bed and breakfast guests by pre-arrangement. It is for the discerning visitor who wishes to learn more about Ireland's history and culture through personal contact with the owners.

A traditional working stable yard adjoins the house.

Glenlohane is a Georgian Country House of architectural significance in a setting essentially unchanged over time. Guests can look out of their bedroom window at wonderful views over a parkland setting.

Usually hosted by Desmond, guests sit at a single table in the dining room. There is also a large drawing room as well as a library for browsing on a wet day.

Although log fires are used in the winter months, the house is fully heated all year and is most comfortable.
