Bed and Breakfast Description
|
|
Hafan Deg was once described as a '200 year old house built last year'. Built into a steep hillside, on the edge of a small hamlet, surrounded by forest in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and set in three quarters of an acre of natural garden, it could indeed have been there for many years. Step into the large square entrance hall leading to a slate-floored dining hall with open beamed (cathedral-style) ceiling and book lined gallery. Here a wide choice of breakfast is served, (including home-baked bread) at the rustic elm table. Hafan Deg is a unique house, full of character, offering high quality accommodation. Whether on holiday or business, guests are sure of a warm and personal welcome from Ann and David.
On the following pages is some information about Hafan Deg to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Telephone, fax, e-mail and a photocopier are available as is broadband access to the internet and wi-fi. Guests are welcome to sit in the comfort of the gallery or in the garden and enjoy panoramic views over the Clwydian Hills, Moel Fenlli Iron Age Hill Fortress and Offas Dyke Footpath. In winter the wood burning stove in the dining hall gives additional warmth. In summer the wooden deck area is an ideal spot for afternoon tea. Hafan Deg regularly features in mountain bike and walking magazines. Cleaning and drying facilities are available, with power washing for cycles. Packed lunches are available.

Local Attractions
|
The village of Maeshafn, with a population of about 130, lies on the side of Moel Findeg, a small mountain. Direct action by the local villagers has brought to an end a 30 year battle to prevent the mountain being used for quarrying. They raised the funds to purchase it and have now turned it into a Local Nature Reserve (LNR), which is enjoyed by all.
Hafan Deg's hosts, Ann & David Scruton, are very knowledgeable about the area and can recommend places to eat and visit. Attractions within easy reach include Llangollen with its horse drawn canal barge trips, steam locomotive and International Music Eisteddfod, Conwy, Harlech and Caernarfon Castles, Portmeirion, the Italianate village featured in 'The Prisoner', the Great Orme at Llandudno, the slate caverns, Snowdonia National Park, and the Roman City of Chester.
Close by are Loggerheads and Moel Famau, Country Parks, Offa's Dyke footpath, golf courses and many walking and cycling routes.
Manchester and Liverpool (the Albert Dock, Museums, Art Galleries, and The Beatles Story) are all easily accessible. |
