Bed and Breakfast Description

A narrow village road winds among picturesque thatched cottages and leads you to the Greyhound's generous carpark. From your evening meal you need only cross the gravelled courtyard to reach the comfort of your elegant four-poster bed.

Sydling St Nicholas was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 and parts have been owned variously by Milton Abbey and Winchester. The Greyhound takes its name from the crest of the Wyldebore family. Nowadays the rustic charm in the Greyhound still exists but it is supplemented with modern conveniences and those little extra touches that make your stay more memorable.

The accommodation available is varied and versatile and you can choose between antique french beds, large doubles or four-poster luxury, with ensuites, tea and coffee-making facilities and colour TV's. (It's just the beds that are antique -not the mattresses!

John and Karen are lucky enough to have the services of a talented chef who specialises in seafood dishes and who believes firmly in using the best of the local produce. Partners Ron and Cherry have brought their considerable experience to bear to ensure no detail is overlooked and that your break is relaxing and carefree.

Local Attractions

The stunning World Heritage Coast is just 20 miles away. There are miles of coastal walks, unspoilt beaches and hidden coves to explore, from Swanage and Poole in the east, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, the rugged Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach and on to Lyme Regis in the west.

For the energetic, sea angling, boat trips, wreck and reef-diving, and golf are all with easy reach of your accommodation.

Thomas Hardy country is all around you with many recognisable film locations and book references, enough to fill all your available time.

For fun-filled family days out, the children will enjoy the Tutankhamun exhibition in Dorchester, the Tank Museum at Bovingdon or the famous Monkey World. Details of all the major attractions and interests are available from the reception.

B&B Location

Follow the A37 out from Dorchester and turn right under the railway bridge at Grimstone. This lane will tootle along through meadows and watercress beds and your cares will drop away along the roadside. You should be relaxed and calm by the time the first thatched cottages of Main Street come into view.

Watch for the prominent Greyhound sign on the right. Your accommodation is in the converted block on the right of the carpark but you may wish to leave the unloading until you have had a glass of something warming and welcoming.
