Bed and Breakfast Description

The Byre Vegetarian B&B offers quality accommodation while aiming to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The house, originally a 19th century stone-built farm byre, is a unique modern conversion, tastefully furnished in a minimalist elegant style.

Sitting Room - You will be able to relax and unwind in our calm and restful sitting room. We have local maps and binoculars for guests use and local tourist information. TV/video/DVD and Hi-fi.

The Dining area has a well-stocked tea/coffee making table. We are happy for guests to have their own food and drink in our dining room and we provide crockery, glasses and cutlery. Our kitchen can be used to heat vegetarian food.

The entrance is tiled, so wet and/or muddy walkers/cyclists/travellers can walk straight in! However, we do prefer our guests to leave their outdoor footwear at the entrance and we provide Guests’ house-socks for comfort indoors.

The blue room is perfect for a short stay. It can be booked on-line as a twin or single. If you require a double, and our lilac room is not available on-line, please phone us and we can arrange the blue room as a double. An en-suite, thermostic radiator controls, electric blankets and hairdryer ensure a comfortable stay.

The Lilac room, with bedside lamps, thermostic radiator controls, electric blankets and hairdryer, can be booked as either a double or twin room. Our guests tell us its perfect for a romantic break. The spacious private bathroom has a luxury sized oval bath - takes two - just right for a soothing candlelit soak. (Beeswax candles provided). There is a separate shower unit.

We are thrilled with our new glass and stainless steel meditation room. Situated at the top of our elevated garden, it offers a beautiful space with a view over the house to Harbottle Crags. A perfect place for quiet reflection, contemplation and bird-watching. We hope our guests will enjoy using it as much as we do.

Local Attractions

Harbottle, an historic village in the Northumberland National Park, has a pub and surgery. The ancient ruins of Harbottle Castle, built to strengthen the Border defences, overlook the Reivers’ Way along the Coquet Valley. Harbottle’s location in central Northumberland and at the foot of the Cheviots, is a perfect base for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers, within easy reach of Alnwick Castle & Gardens and just 15 minutes from the popular village of Rothbury and Cragside.

Northumberland National Park offers glimpses of ancient landscapes and wilderness found nowhere else in England. You’ll hear the haunting cries of the curlew and, if you’re lucky, spot the red squirrel in one of the few places left in England where it survives.
