Bed and Breakfast Description

Welcome to the Hope & Anchor website. Based on the scenic Northumbrian coastline, we can offer you cosy accommodation in our hotel in the pretty seaside village of Alnmouth.

The hope and Anchor is reputed to be one of the oldest buildings in the popular seaside village of Alnmouth. It hasm been an Inn for as long as people can remember and it's walls will no doubt carry secrets and stories, which only they can tell.
Today, after a long period of refurbishment, George and Debbie Philipson can offer you a comfortable base from which you can enjoy the delights of the heritage coastline, golf courses, cycle ways, walks and wide sandy beaches.

There are 2 large family rooms, 4 double rooms and 1 single room all with ensuite showers and W.C. You can relax in our cosy and well stocked bar and re-fuel your energy levels in our informal restaurant.

We can also provide ample room and catering for that special occasion, be it a wedding reception, birthday party or business meeting.

Local Attractions
The Hope and Anchor is situated in the attractive village of Alnmouth, this thriving village was once a grain port, but during a severe storm in 1806, the main harbour silted up which caused the River Aln to break through the sand hills and change its course.
Nowdays, Alnmouth is better known for its large golf course overlooking a long stretch of sandy beach and estuary and its bustling village full of gift shops and tea rooms.

Within a few miles radius of the Hotel is Alnwick Castle, recently made famous as the location for the Harry Potter films, and the newly opened ‘Alnwick Garden’ with it's fascinating water features.

Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh castles are all a short drive away and a little further lies Cradle of Christianity - Holy Island and the wildlife sanctuaries of the Farne Islands. Alnmouth has its own railway station on the East Coast Mainline, giving quick access to the busy shopping centres of Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh.
 

B&B Location
If travelling from the south :
Follow the A1 north to Alnwick. On reaching the first roundabout in the town, follow the signs to Alnmouth. The hotel is on the left hand side, just after the turning to the beach.

If arriving from the north :
Follow the A1 south to Alnwick and take the slip road signed Alnwick, Denwick and RAF Boulmer. Turn right at the top of the slip road and head into Alnwick. At the war memorial turn left and at the first roundabout follow the signs to Alnmouth. The hotel is on the left hand side, just after the turning to the beach.

Both routes are less than 6 miles from the A1.
