Bed and Breakfast Description

The Middle Ruddings Hotel was stone built in 1903 (with later extensions) and retains the friendly and open atmosphere of that period.

It is located in the pretty Lakeland village of Braithwaite, two miles west of Keswick and opposite the impressive Skiddaw mountain range which dominates the Northern Fells and offers comfortable accommodation and good food in a central location.

All our rooms are en suite and have full central heating, colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

A comfortable double room.
We can offer twin or double rooms, some with four poster beds for that extra romantic touch, and also have single rooms available. Some rooms have an additional single bed as family rooms. There is ample hanging and drawer space for outdoor clothing as well as casual wear for evening relaxation.

Meals are served each lunchtime and evening in the dining room, the Conservatory or the bar.
Evening meals maybe selected from our extensive menu or from our "specials" menu. There are vegetarian meals on the menu as well as Children's meals. If you have any particular dietary requirements, please contact Middle Ruddings.

Local Attractions
We have our own grounds and comfy bar and lounge of course, free tennis and bowls are available from the hotel. If you would like to be a little more adventurous, there is a range of options open to you...

The area immediately around the Middle Ruddings Hotel is some of the best walking country in the Lake District. Its deep valleys are surrounded by mountains, rising steeply from the valley floors, so height is gained quickly. There are not the crowds of the central fells, but the views are superb. The walking is good, but not dangerous with normal precautions. Some fells have steep screes which are dramatic to look at, and which may be safely viewed from the pleasant ridges above.

The closest fell to the Middle Ruddings Hotel is Barrow. Not one of the highest at 455 metres or 1494 feet above sea level, it nevertheless commands good views from the summit and much of interest on its slopes.
 

B&B Location
Middle Ruddings is close to the main A66 Penrith / Keswick / Cockermouth / Workington road, just west of Keswick.

After passing Keswick continue toward Cockermouth for about a mile. You will see a sign and turn for Buttermere, Braithwaite. Do NOT take this turn but carry on for 150 yards to the next turn. It is before a sign that says Thornthwaite and Gallery. (A useful pointer in the dark.)

As you turn, the hotel is in front of you. Turn immediately right and then left into the car park. The reception area is next to the car park.
