Bed and Breakfast Description

Melrose House is a beautifully restored
Victorian town house offering high-quality
bed and breakfast accommodation in the
greater London area.

Situated in the quiet suburb of
Beckenham/Penge in southeast London,
Melrose House is a mere 15 minute train
journey from the centre of London,
but still remote enough to escape the noise,
bustle and high prices of central London.
We offer our guests off street parking, en suite bedrooms, period breakfast room and a lounge/conservatory that accesses directly into the relaxing mixed flower, rockery and pond garden.

All of our rooms are pretty and freshly decorated to a very high standard, each with a private bathroom. We pride ourselves on our hospitality and friendliness, and enjoy meeting and making new friends from all over the world.

We keep our prices low, and the room rate includes all taxes and breakfast, which consists of: fruit juice, fruit salad, yoghurts, cereals, breads and scones, cheese, scrambled and/or boiled eggs, bacon, preserves, and beverages.

Local Attractions

Melrose House is located on the boundaries of two quiet southeast London suburbs, Beckenham and Penge, in the London Borough of Bromley - London's largest borough. Close to home, Penge features The Royal Watermen's Almshouses, which were built around 1840 to house retired Thames ferrymen, and London's oldest working police station, built in 1872.

Just a 10 minute walk from Melrose House is the famous Crystal Palace Park and National Sports Centre. The Crystal Palace was a London icon for more than 80 years until it burned down in a massive fire in 1936. Visitors can still imagine the huge scale of the Palace by visiting Crystal Palace Park, as well as admire the impressive collection of full-sized replica dinosaurs that were created for the site in 1854. The park also hosts a series of outdoor summer concerts each year.

A little farther afield is Down House, the home of Charles Darwin, as well as a host of other great sites.

Melrose House is also quite close to Kent - known for very good reason as The Garden of England. Places to visit include Hever Castle, Rochester and Chartwell.
