Description

The Marquis of Lorne is a 16th Century Inn set amid the beautiful West Dorset countryside offering superlative Bed & Breakfast Accommodation in a peaceful rural setting. It has a very good reputation for its food and ambience - a great place to stay for a relaxing short break or a longer holiday.

Our bars are called Eggardon and Pitcher, our non-smoking dining rooms are called Swyre, and Mangerton. All named after local hills. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink by the roaring log fires when cold, or alfresco in the pretty beer gardens, weather permitting.

The accommodation consists of two country-style four -poster rooms for the ultimate in luxury and romance. There are also four country-style double rooms, all of which have have unspoilt open views of the fields.

In addition, the rooms have remote control colour television, hospitality tray, direct dial telephone, luxury white towels, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer and adjustable central heating.

Local Attractions

The Inn is well positioned to visit a wealth of interesting places. Nettlecombe is a small Hamlet with old stone cottages and a good starting point to walk the famous Ancient Roman Hill Fort Eggardon Hill, which has spectacular views over the coast and surrounding countryside.

The nearest shops are at Bridport, a small market town with regular local Farmers Markets' and a twice weekly street market with a great collection of antique stalls.

Powerstock, a picture postcard village is just 1/2 a mile away and has a very pretty Norman Church.

Local Beaches are easily accessible at Burton Bradstock, Eype, West Bay, which also has a small fishing port, Charmouth ,famous for its Heritage Centre and a superb area for fossil collecting, Lyme Regis, with its famous Cobb where the French Lieutenant's Woman was filmed.
 

Location

From Bridport, turn off the A3066 Bridport - Beaminster road (about 1 1/2 miles North of Bridport) following the sign for Loders and Mangerton Mill. At the junction, bear left past Mangerton Mill, drive through West Milton and continue for a further mile, then at the T junction (signposted Powerstock left) go straight over.The Marquis of Lorne is up the hill, approximately 300 yards further on the left.
