This cosy, non-smoking English Lake District inn dates back to the early 1700's and is tucked away in the small village of Bampton, in the Lake District National Park. It is south of Penrith, close to Haweswater. This is a wonderful, tranquil location, providing an excellent base for walking and cycling from the door, with views across the unspoilt Lowther Valley.
This real ale pub is a freehouse which boasts wooden beams, a log fire and a warm welcome. Antique maps and old photographs of Mardale village furnish the walls, and local newspapers and wooden puzzles add further interest.
Home made food is served, taking advantage of the delicious local Cumbrian produce. Owners Neil and Katherine Stocks are proud of the variety of tasty dishes they’ve produced themselves, including some interesting vegetarian options. The pub is almost entirely owner-run, and booking for meals is advisable as places are limited in this small traditional inn.
We have three B&B rooms which are non-smoking, and have been awarded AA 3 diamond standards.
