Description

Hedley House is a family run hotel which has been in the same ownership since 1984. It was tastefully converted that year from two Victorian town houses. It is located in a quiet residential area just outside the city walls. It has its own car park and lock up garages, important in York where parking is at a premium. It is an easy walk into the City Centre of about eight minutes. Most rooms have recently been refurbished.

All rooms are en-suite, most with bath and shower, hospitality tray and colour television. We have a lounge bar for the exclusive use of our guests and we serve home cooked evening meals and snacks.

We have newly added a BBQ area and a 6 person outdoor aqua spa on a garden deck for your enjoyment!

The main features of our hotel are:
Centrally heated
15 bedrooms - ALL en-suite, most with both bath and shower
Rooms have remote colour television, direct dial phones and hospitality tray (i.e. tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits)
Free Internet Access
A comfortable lounge bar and our dining room is for use by residents only
Tariff includes a traditional full English breakfast
Dinner, which is optional, is served every evening.
Off street parking at the rear of the hotel is available and coach parking arrangements can be made upon request
We have 1 pet friendly room with direct access to car park. Subject to availability.
Annex with a further 11 en-suite refurbished rooms.

Local Attractions

The Minster
It is a cathedral containing the Archbishop's 'cathedra' or throne. The first Minster was 7th century: the present one is the fourth on the site. It is the largest medieval structure in the United Kingdom.

The Walls
York's first walls were Roman. Substantial fragments of these still remain but it is the medieval walls, carefully maintained and restored, which now encircle the old city, almost three miles round.

The Bars
Gateways let you in but they can also 'bar' your way and often, in York's turbulent past, that was the thing which counted most. Bootham Bar is the defensive bastion for the North road.

Stonegate
A number of York's streets have names ending in 'gate', the Vikings' word for 'street'. But Stonegate existed long before the Vikings came: it was the 'Via Praetoria' to the main gate of the old Roman fortress.

St. William's College
The college was built about 1465 for the Minster Chantry priests.

Guildhall and River
Two rivers meet at York; the Ouse and the Foss. The Ouse, at one time tidal here, enabled the city to become a great port and trading center.
