Bed and Breakfast Description

Located on the quiet Western edge of the Lake District National Park, Gosforth Hall Hotel & Restaurant is only a few minutes drive from England's deepest lake, highest mountain and smallest church! Building of the Hall commenced in 1658, the year of Oliver Cromwell's death. The date of completion is not clear, although the date on the Coat of Arms situated in the bar is 1673.

The hotel stands next to St Mary's Church with the famous 15ft-high Viking Cross. Many of the building's original features have been retained, in keeping with its Grade 2* listing.

The Hotel has 10 comfortable guest bedrooms, eight of which are en-suite. All rooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities and televisions. The Suite boasts a 4-poster bed, a giant en-suite bath and must be seen to be believed! This room proves popular as a bridal suite as well as for celebrations of special anniversaries or for guests just wishing to spoil themselves in this luxurious accommodation.

The Hotel's restaurant is open Monday to Sarurday Evening, food is also available in the bar or lounge in the Evenings. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, booking is highly recommended. We take great pride in the food we offer - all home-cooked and based on fresh local produce. If you have any special dietary needs, just let us know and we will do our best to help.

Local Attractions

The Gosforth Hall Hotel is located in the charming village of Gosforth, conveniently located within easy distance of the beautiful and unspoilt Eskdale and Wasdale valleys. This makes it a perfect base for both walkers and travellers wishing to explore the region. The hotel itself provides an inviting and friendly atmosphere and, complemented by regular activities and entertainment, draws people from the local area as well as visitors.

The local area provides access to a number of interesting attractions and places to visit. We have listed some of these below, with our own views on those we have visited.

Situated on the edge of the scenic village of Silecroft within the Lake District National Park, Murthwaite Green Trekking Centre offers horse riding for all ages and abilities. From a gentle walk through the village to an exhilarating gallop along the beach; we are open all year with rides going out most days.

Muncaster Castle is a must for visitors to the area. If you wish to visit all the gardens, which we recommend, it will be a full day out. Please remember to wear suitable footwear, though, as it can be muddy. The birds of prey display is spectacular, as is the owl sancutuary. All in all, a great day out for all the family and only 20 minutes drive from the hotel.

The La'al Ratty is described as the most beautiful train journey in England, and we are not about to disagree. This is another one for the family and again is less than 20 minutes from the Gosforth Hall Hotel.

A visit to the Rum Story in Whitehaven can turn out to be quite a staggering event!
