Bed and Breakfast Description

Glenthorne is less formal than a hotel with a guest house atmosphere.

Glenthorne offers a host of facilities which are available to all guests: lounge, quiet room, function & games room, drying rooms and bicycle storage. All contribute towards the homely feel with every facility needed to enjoy your stay here.

The property comprises the Main House built in 1834 with ten bedrooms and Bankside (formerly the stables for Wordsworth's Allan Bank) situated in the grounds with a further 15 bedrooms. Most rooms boast splendid views.

Glenthorne prides itself on its friendly welcome, good cooking from fresh ingredients and restful, beautiful location. Country house comfort with a guest house welcome.

Full board includes breakfast, dinner, afternoon tea and a packed lunch to eat in or out with access to all rooms and grounds throughout the day.

Local Attractions
Two minutes walk from Glenthorne, Grasmere has a general store, newsagents, chemist and post office, many quality gift and book shops, a garden centre, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants with a variety of prices.

The Tourist Information Centre is in the village and there are a range of brochures and maps available in the guesthouse. More shops, a cinema, banks and petrol station are available in Ambleside: a twenty minute drive. There are regular buses from the village to Ambleside, Kendal and Keswick. Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, both now open to the public interested in Wordsworth and his life in the lakes, are only a short distance from Glenthorne.

Walks, both relaxing and more arduous, are numerous and start from right outside our front door. Maps may be borrowed from the guesthouse

Come off the a591 as it passes Grasmere on the way from Rydal to Castlerigg.

From Grasmere centre take the Easedale Road north for a very short distance and watch for our sign.
