Bed and Breakfast Description

The Cromwell House Hotel is a comfortable family run hotel of 15 double and 2 single rooms. Built 100 years ago in a quiet elevated position overlooking The Cove and Stair Hole, it is unspoilt by modern development and enjoys spectacular Sea Views from many rooms and from the Swimming Pool. Within easy walking distance are St Oswald's Bay , Man of War Bay and Durdle Door to the West and further to the East, Arish Mell and Warbarrow Bay.

The unique position of the house with its outstanding views, goes a long way to creating the peaceful atmosphere their guests enjoy. They have spent the years since they came to the hotel steadily raising the standard. The decor is bright and cheerful with a homely feel. In the older part of the house there are three large character bedrooms including the Four Poster which are particularly suitable for special occasions, honeymoon or anniversary.

Tea and coffee facilities, television, direct dial telephones and full central heating are provided in all rooms. (Radios can be provided on request. More than half the rooms and all the reception rooms enjoy delightful sea views.

The hotel has a comfortably furnished sitting room with TV (including satellite), and a separate bar with open fire for afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks. Dorset cream teas with home made scones and real clotted cream are a speciality.

The spacious dining room has patio doors leading onto a south-facing terrace and garden. The swimming pool (heated May to October) is in a spectacular position high above the hotel facing south west for maximum sunshine.

The owner has developed a style of cuisine based on a tradition of good home cooking influenced by many years living abroad. (Vegetarians and special diets catered for). Lobsters and crabs from Lulworth's on fishermen are the highlight of a varied menu. Locally dived scallops are also regularly available.

Local Attractions

The celebrated Jurassic Coastline has now been given World Heritage status , and with good reason.

From the cliff path leading down to Durdle Door you come upon an unparalleled and breathtaking panorama overlooking Man o' War Bay and St Oswald's Bay. Durdle Door itself and Stair Hole are remarkable geological formations.

The area is an amazing location for painters and photographers who speak of the clarity of the light and the beauty of the sea.

For single souls who want to wander or for families who wish to play, there is plenty to see and do without travelling too far. Try MonkeyWorld or Bovingdon Tank Museum or the family-friendly seaside towns of Weymouth or Bournemouth.
