Description

Compton House is a charming and elegant Grade II Listed townhouse, privately run by Lisa and Mark Holloway as a luxurious bed and breakfast.

Overlooking Fountain Gardens and only a few minutes walk from the town centre of Newark on Trent, Compton House is convenient for a wide choice of restaurants, pubs & cafes and is convenient for the markets in the town square.

The house has a welcoming atmosphere, retains many original features and is decorated with a mixture of antiques, and interesting pieces. There are always fresh flowers in the house and guests are free to use the Drawing Room where they can browse through the books and read the newspapers and magazines. In Winter there is a roaring log fire and in Summer the delightful courtyard is perfect for sitting out with a glass of wine or a cup of tea.

There is free internet access throughout the house which has proved very important for our business guests. Compton House is strictly non smoking but guests are welcome to smoke in the courtyard.

We have 7 bedrooms, all except one are en suite including 2 twins, a family room for up to 4 on the ground floor and a romantic Four Poster with free standing roll-top bath. All rooms have superbly comfortable beds with high quality white linen and each room has a full courtesy tray with a proper teapot and complimentary Mineral Water.

Bathrooms are equipped with a heated towel rail, large soft towels and Taylors of London toiletries.

Wireless Internet access is available for all guests, just bring your laptop with you! There is plenty of on street parking in both Baldertongate and on William Street. We also have an off street parking space which is secure, please call to reserve.

Local Attractions
The town of Newark, located on the River Trent, is steeped in history with such names as Charles 1st, Lord Byron and King John just to mention a few. Drowning in antiques, with its world famous "Antiques Fair" which takes place six times a year. People come from all over the world just to view the three thousand stalls at each antiques fair. Newark has 2 theatres, a good range of shops, museums, arts centres. Nearby is Southwell, with it's very fine Minster dating back to Norman times, and of course the most famous forest in the universe, Sherwood Forest.

All the sports from 5 golf courses to all weather horse racing, fishing, boating. A short ride by car or train takes you to Lincoln or Southwell with stunning Cathedrals or you may chose to visit Nottingham with it's castles and where you may shop till you drop!!

From the A46 from Nottingham, follow Victoria Street and Portland Street until the junction with London road.

Here turn right and follow London road, then turn left into Sherwood Avenue the immediate right when you reach Balderton Gate.
