Winner of York Tourism Awards for Excellence 2008 Guest House of the Year Carlton House is a 13 bedroomed b&b within a converted Georgian townhouse. Situated on tree lined Mount gateway to the historic City of York.

Managed by the resident owners where your comfort and well being are our main concern. All our rooms have en-suite facilities, colour tvs, radio alarms, hospitality tray, hairdryers and tourist information pack, free WIFI throughout.

We have a private car park at the rear and on street parking is available.
Within 5 mins stroll of Roman Wall, then a futher 10 mins by foot the city centre.

Close proximity to Railway Station, York Castle Museum, National Railway Museum, York Racecourse and all other tourist attractions.

Under personal supervision at all times, the hotel offers a spacious lounge and a delightful breakfast room where a traditional English breakfast is cooked to order.

The Carlton House Hotel operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, cancellations within 48 hours will be charged a full nights room rate unless we can re-let the room.

 

York Attractions

 
York Minster. York Minster is the largest medieval building in England and the biggest cathedral north of the Alps.

The Walls & Bars. York's first were Roman. Substantial fragments of these still remains but it is medieval walls, carefully maintained and restored, which now encircle the old city, almost three miles round.

Jorvik Viking Centre. Jorvik is a part of Viking York uncovered by archaeologists beneath Coppergate.

Clifford's Tower. The original wooden tower was built by William the Conqueror as part of his campaign to subdue the north of England.

Yorkshire Museum. The Yorkshire Museum houses one of Europe's richest archaeological collections, including some of the finest Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking and medieval treasures in Britain.

York Dungeon. The York Dungeon takes you back to a time before English society became genteel and ordered, to a time when execution and torture were everyday events.

Merchant Adventurers' Hall. Built in 1357-62, the Merchant Adventurers' Hall is the finest medieval guild hall in Europe.

From the South
You will come into York on the A64 Leeds - York road. On the outskirts of the city take the A1036 turning signposted to York West. After a mile you will pass the Racecourse on your right hand side. There is then a slight hill with traffic lights at the top, go through these lights and we are 100 yards along on the left hand side.

From the North
You will come from the A1 on to the A59. On the outskirts of the city you will cross the outer ring road ( A1237). Follow that road until you come up a hill and cross a large railway bridge. Turn right just over this bridge into Dalton Terrace. At the traffic lights at the next crossroads turn left and we are 100 yards along on the left.
